North Orange County ROP Announces Partnership with Academy Lab Partners

Orangish COUNTY, CA: North Orange County Regional Occupational Program is partnering with local non-turn a profit University Lab Partners to bring biotechnology educational opportunities to Orange Canton. The biotechnology field is chop-chop growing and The Beall Family Foundation, in collaboration with UCI Beall Applied Innovation, opened University Lab Partners, the start non-profit wet lab incubator in Orange Canton's tech hub, Irvine, CA. The open innovation platform of the University Lab Partners facility enables lifescience and medtech entrepreneurs to access unique research capabilities and a network of technical, business concern, and talent resources at an economic toll.

"Incubators are economic drivers past creating jobs so nosotros not but have to create high paying jobs, but develop qualified candidates to fill up them. We desire the workforce in Orange Canton to be able to live and work in Orange County," said Karin Koch, Ecosystem Director at Academy Lab Partners. "Bringing more than students in the field of biotechnology and medical engineering science, which provides sustainable living wage jobs, is an of import part of our mission."

University Lab Partners provided Due north Orangish County ROP's Biotechnology Pathway students at Oxford Academy the opportunity to be the first group of loftier schoolhouse students to tour and use the equipment at the facility, spending a day learning how biotech companies are conceived, piloted, protected, and pitched. The one thousand opening of the facility was historic on February 27 where Superintendent Dr. Giamarino spoke to attendees nearly the value of educational partnerships with manufacture.

"By connecting our most precious commodity, our students, to businesses who will invest in them, this partnership benefits us all," said Dr. Giamarino. "Nosotros want our students to remain in Orange County and be a role of our growth and sustainability."

Orange County Department of Education held its annual OC Pathways Showcase at Edwards Lifesciences on Nov. 27. The theme was "Our Humanity, Our Technology, Our Future," and featured student work across fifteen career technical pedagogy industry sectors. Guests from local businesses, schools, colleges were in attendance. Edwards Lifesciences Vice President of Advanced Applied science Jinny Lee and Executive Director of Global Corporate Giving Amanda Fowler hosted a panel to hash out patient-focused medical innovations with Biotechnology Pathway students Amanda Gao and Shawn Patel, and answered career-related questions from students.

The 4th Annual Nutcracker Featuring Super Mario

Performing Arts Pathway students at Western Loftier School presented The quaternary Annual Nutcracker on Dec. half-dozen & 7. The classic ballet was presented with a twist, using characters from Nintendo'south Mario Bros. game series. Costumes, set design, script writing, and marketing were done by students across all of instructor Maile Leonard's classes.

More than 300 Biotechnology and Patient Care Pathway students attended the annual HOSA: Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference in Sacramento on March 28 - 31. Students from Cypress, Esperanza, Katella, Magnolia, Savanna, Sonora, and Sunny Hills High Schools, Oxford University (junior high and high school students), loftier school students at Trident Education Center, and our developed programs participated in healthcare-related competitions that included Existing Medical Innovation, Ad-lib Health Poster, Medical Math, and many more. Students were also recognized for their community service hours. Winners who qualify will caput off to Orlando, Florida for the HOSA International Leadership Briefing in June.

Dancing With The Staff

Performing Arts Pathway students at Western High Schoolhouse held their annual Dancing With the Staff competition on March 22. The upshot was Broadway themed and each competing staff member danced to a musical number alongside two students. Patient Care Pathway Instructor Carolann Baldridge was one of nine competing teachers. The show also included past pupil performances, many of which have won awards, and group performances with Performing Arts Pathway Instructor Maile Leonard.

Blueprint/Build Competition

Residential and Commercial Construction Pathway students at Anaheim, Brea Olinda, Savanna, Valencia, and Western Loftier School participated in the annual Design/Build Competition. Each team was given a two-day project that mimics the real-world pressures of inspections and deadlines while enforcing the values of safety, teamwork, and craftsmanship. Officials from national construction companies inspected the flooring plans and structure designs. Brea Olinda High School placed 2d out of 12 teams.

The annual Yorba Days Community Faire and Motorcar Show was on April 6 at the Yorba Linda Community Center. The event included local vendors, resources available to residents, and a archetype car show. Teaching and Patient Care Pathway students at Esperanza High School provided demonstrations, while Food Service and Hospitality Pathway students at Yorba Linda High School sold cookies and treats made during class. The logo featured on t-shirts made for the effect was created by Jessa Laboissonniere; a Design, Visual, and Media Arts Pathway educatee at El Dorado Loftier School. Instructor Valerie Easton also received a surprise visit from Cody Haney, a by NOCROP Patient Care Pathway student. He currently works for the Orange County Fire Department. Congratulations to our 2020 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Reid Petersen! He has taught the Design, Visual, and Media Arts Pathway at El Camino Real High School in the Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District since commencement his career in July of 2010.

In improver to beingness an exemplary instructor, Reid has served as a Professional Learning Community Lead Teacher, ROP staff development workshop presenter, and CTE Briefing workshop presenter. Reid credits his students for making him the instructor he is. He stated, "my students are the best and they are the reason I love my job!"

On April 28 - May 1, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) visiting committee toured North Orangish Canton ROP schools. The visit is part of a multi-year procedure that ensures that North Orange County ROP provides the following to our students:

• Assures a school customs that the school'southward purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable education program  — a trustworthy institution for student learning

• Validates the integrity of the ROP'southward plan and transcripts

• Facilitates transfer of credits — disquisitional for college/university acceptance worldwide

• Fosters the ongoing improvement of the school's programs and operations to back up student learning

• Provides valuable insight from fellow educators visiting the schoolhouse

Food Service and Hospitality students at Anaheim and Sonora High Schools participated in the annual Cooking Upwardly Modify competition on April 25. Each student team was challenged to create a new lunch carte du jour following a strict set of criteria that includes utilizing ingredients commonly found in a school cafeteria, a budget of $i.fifty per serving, all while making it creative, smashing tasting, and nutritious. North Orange County ROP students received the following awards:

Engineering Design Pathway students at Sunny Hills High School held the annual Technology Design and Evolution Trade Prove on May iii. Senior students who have completed the career pathway starting from their freshman year showcased their year-long senior project. Each team was challenged to blueprint a product in response to a common problem. Projects included an expandable cup holder for cars, a bottle cap to increase the longevity of carbonation in drinks, and a re-designed classroom desk-bound with an increment in surface/storage space.

Students in the Kid Evolution and Patient Care Pathways at Anaheim High School collaborated to provide preschool students with a dental lesson. Under the supervision of Instructor Colleen Hanley, RDA, CDA; Instructor Lisa Clark, and Instructional Assistant Virginia Potestas, the kids learned how to castor and floss their teeth properly. North Orange County ROP operates five country-licensed preschools. High schoolhouse students enrolled in our Child Development Pathway receive hands-on learning experiences in a preschool setting.

Performing Arts Pathway students at Western Loftier Schoolhouse held their concluding dance show of the yr, WE Dance. The performances were dedicated to raising awareness for causes such as domestic abuse, cancer, suicide prevention, eating disorders, and many more. Students also raised funds for various organizations by selling shirts, bracelets, coloring book pages, flowers, and offered a discount on tickets to the evidence through a donation of children's books or kitchen appliances.

Education Pathway students at Kennedy Loftier School worked with the special education department to provide a field trip to Tanaka Farms in Irvine. Students raised funds past selling cookies baked by the culinary students during Back-to-School Dark. On the field trip, students learned about the procedure of getting produce from the subcontract to table.

More than 150 students and their instructors attended Nosotros Day at The Forum in Los Angeles on April 25. Students earned their tickets by integrating service learning/community service into their form curriculum. The televised event included motivational speakers, live performances, and appearances by Run a risk The Rapper, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, and many more.
